Inc Authority's First Year Is $0. The Second Has No Number on It.

Our interest, stated plainly at the start. WI Registered Agent.org sells Wisconsin registered agent service at $99 a year, this page argues for it, and every reader who switches is worth $99 to us. Everything attributed to Inc Authority here comes from material the company itself put in public, checked in July 2026, plus one figure it does not put anywhere, which we describe as an absence rather than filling in a guess.

Nothing Is Charged in the First Twelve Months

Form a company through Inc Authority and the agent service rides along at no cost for twelve months. Free means free. There is no trial that quietly converts at month three, no deposit, no minimum term hidden behind the word. A founder who forms through Inc Authority gets a compliant Wisconsin agent for twelve months and pays nothing for it, and anyone dismissing that as a gimmick is being unfair to the offer.

We would rather concede the point cleanly than spend three paragraphs undermining a thing that is straightforwardly good. The issue arrives on day 366.

We Went Looking for the Renewal and Came Back Without It

In July 2026 we tried to find out what year two costs. The search was not casual. We read the pricing presentation, worked through the package comparison, went through the support answers, and followed the signup path as far as it goes before a payment method is required.

No renewal figure appeared at any point.

That is not an accusation of dishonesty, and we want to be careful here. Companies structured this way generally do disclose the number, just later, in a conversation or on a final checkout screen rather than on a public page. The renewal is real, somebody knows what it is, and it is presumably quoted accurately when it is quoted. What we can tell you is only this: as of that check, the figure was not published where a person deciding between providers could read it.

The consequence is practical. You cannot compare a price you have not been shown. The rest of the field can be put side by side in a spreadsheet and judged over a coffee. This one asks you to commit first and price second, which reverses the usual order of a purchase.

There is a two minute fix, and it costs nothing. Before your free twelve months run out, ask Inc Authority in writing what the renewal will be. Get the answer in an email you can save. Then compare it against the other rates you already know, ours among them, and decide with full information instead of on a renewal date.

Wisconsin Legislated an Inbox. It Did Not Legislate a Price Tag.

There is a small irony sitting underneath all of this, and it belongs to Wisconsin rather than to any vendor.

Most states describe a registered agent in terms of geography and availability: be somewhere real, be there during business hours. Wisconsin adds a condition no other state in this series carries. Under Wis. Stat. § 183.0115(2), whoever holds the appointment must have an e-mail address, alongside an actual place of business or activity within the state. An inbox, written into the statute itself, as a qualification for the role. The Department of Financial Institutions carries the same requirement onto the annual report, where the agent email is a field the department expects filled rather than skipped.

So Wisconsin insists your agent be reachable and identifiable in writing. It has nothing to say about whether that agent's second-year price is reachable in writing. The state closed one gap and left the other to the market, which is roughly why pages like this one exist.

The Wisconsin Filing Waiting at the End of the Free Year

Whatever you decide, the mechanics are the same and they are cheap.

Wisconsin moves an agent appointment on one document: the department's statement of change, filed as Form 13. Its destination is the corporate and consumer services division at the Department of Financial Institutions, which is where every Wisconsin entity record lives, since this state does not route business filings through a Secretary of State at all.

Two parties can start it. Ordinarily the company files, naming its incoming agent and the registered office address that goes with them. The statutes also let the agent file a change directly, which matters mostly in the reverse case where an agent is resigning or updating its own address. Either way the document is short and the department asks for the entity name and identification number, the new agent, the office address, the agent's email, and confirmation that the incoming agent has consented.

The fee depends on the route. Filed through the department's online system it is $10. Printed and mailed it is $25, and the PDF itself carries the higher figure at the top of the page, which catches out people who download the form before checking whether they could have filed on screen. Expedited handling exists at $100 extra and a routine agent change has no use for it.

Timing is the part worth planning. Your free year expires on a specific date, and you want the record already changed by then rather than changed in response to an invoice. Enroll here two or three weeks ahead, put our details on Form 13, send it in while Inc Authority still holds the appointment, then look your entity up on the department's public search and see our name where theirs used to be.
